Can Stripers be caught in the dead of winter?

Here's a story and picture I found on an ice fishing site about a Striper recently taken through the ice @ Lake Wallenpaupack...on wax worms and 4lb. test!!!

I USED I WAX WORM AND ONE SPIKE ON EACH TREBLE HOOK. I WAS FISHING FOR SLAMMER PERCH. I ALSO LANDED ABOUT 8-10 PERCH THE LARGEST BEING 14.5 INCHES ABOUT 1 1/3 LBS VERY FAT FEMALE. I WAS FISHING WITH MY FRIEND AND HIS FATHER THE BITE WAS SLOW.. ONE HERE ONE THERE.... MY FRIEND AND HIS FATHER LEFT AT 3:30 AT 4:15 I MARKED THE FISH ABOUT 6 INCHES FROM THE BOTTOM. BOOM I SET THE HOOK AND I JUST HEARD AND SAW MY DRAG SPINNING. I WAS USING A 24INCH GANDER MOUNTAIN NOODLE ROD WITH 4 LB TEST. I WAS BY MYSELF THEN. I WAS HAPPY THAT I HAD A FULL SPOOL OF LINE. THE STRIPER TOOK MOST OF THE LINE. AT THIS TIME I THOUGHT I WAS FIGHTING A CHANNEL CATFISH, SINCE I CAUGHT ONE 7 LBS LAST WEEK. ONLY THIS FIGHT WAS A MUCH STRONGER FISH. FINALLY AT 4:45 I JUST SAW HIS HEAD... THANKS TO MY GAFF . I PULLED HIM THROUGH THE 8 IN HOLE. THEN I CALL ALL MY FRIENDS .

yes i see

Yes Lake water with out a doubt they head to fresh water when the water gets colder.

In late fall Striped Bass ascend the rivers to over-winter in fresh water, in order to avoid low lethal marine temperatures. Site selection for over-wintering sites appears to be unrelated to spawning sites, and may be opportunistic, dependent on the geographic location of the fish at the onset of winter. In other words, Striped Bass do not necessarily over-winter in their spawning rivers. Males generally spawn for the first time at about age three or four, females at age four or five
yes I know

I know I was just refering to the point that fresh water will not get as cold as the salt water. that was my only point:)
