JV - I know where there's a terrific match for that reel in a St. Croix Tidemaster 80HC - the 8' heavy action baitcasting/convetional model. Its marked down to just $95 - a very significant discount. There's only ONE of these left, so if you want it PM me and I'll tell you which tackle shop has it right now.

I own the 7'6" version of this rod and believe me its a very nice stick - casts like a rocket and works a 1-1.5oz surface plug beautifully. Better think about it, because I may just go grab it myself. ;)

best, Lep

Jaevee, I have that reel, and I really like it. I usually let me wife use it, as she would rather cast a conventional than a spinning reel. I figured that the ability to remove the side plate to un-do her numerous birds nests every trip is key. I've only had it since September, but so far so good. It's held up nicely to some mid-teens blues and bass.

St croix makes some great rods and you should be able to find one that fits your budget. Ugly stik also makes great rods that would be real good for throwing those lures and throwing bait. The only problem with ugly stiks is that they have a light tip so throwing more than 6oz is tough. Also, hooking into a big bluefish on the ugly stiks makes their already incredble strength feel 10x stronger. I have 2 ugly stiks though and They are both great. The st croix I got last year and it has much more backbone.
