Well guys the winter bash is a better success then thought! I never thought we would hit the 70 mark but we are just a few shy! Plus we have a small kiddy for prizes which will be raffled off at the bash. I am also asking anyone attending to ask around at local tackle stores for prize donations for the raffles. All the proceeds will go to the charities we selected and I am working on making our own take a kid fishing sponsorship.
I would like to take a charter for kids with out dads or other problem children on a ½ day fluking. This could involve others interested to help out and assist these kids as a dad for the day? It?s just thought but I know when I was a kid the thing I remember the most was quality time with my dad and nothing better then fishing so I would like to bring that possibility to others that are less fortunate. This is just an idea but it doesn?t seem too difficult to make happen? Will discuss it at the bash so everyone can decide on what to do. So like I said if you can find anyone willing to donate prizes it would be a nice thing.
Remember guys you only get 1 raffle ticket all others much be purchased at the bash.
Plus Al Goldberg and Capt Neil will be donating 2 custom made rods worth over 1000.00 dollars to be won! I will also have some nice prizes also. So we only got 1 month left to make it happen. Happy New Year to all and God bless

Take a kid fishing.

I like the idea of charter boat or party boat on which we can take kids who have lost parents in the attack of 9/11 and the kids of of Policeman and fireman and other American heros that have lost their lives in service to their fellow man.

Guys, thanks for the kind words. It was a fun project to make. The only mistake I made was calling it a 50tw. It should be called a 500tw and I believe it holds 3 miles of 80lb berkely big game.

Happy New Year

I just put the first coat of finish on the deepwater tog stick that will be raffled off at the Bash. Four more coats of finish and it will be done. I will try to have some photos posted here before the Bash.

Here is a full description of the rod:

The blank is a custom Calstar composite that I designed with Mark Flynn of Long Island Rodcrafting and Leon at Calstar. It is an 8-foot medium action blank that has been trimmed at the tip to handle up to 12 ounces.

It is spiral wrapped with Fuji SIC guides, Fuji reelseat, black flocked cork foregrip and double wrapped cork tape butt.

Guide wraps are metallic blue with silver trim and inlays and black. The butt wrap is a 9-diamond snakeskin on four sides.

Here is how the raffle will work:

I will have 2-3 decks of cards. Each card represents one chance. You will pick a card, sign it and give it to me. At the end of the evening all the signed cards will be shuffled and one of the speakers will pick the winner.

$10 a card, 3 for $25. All the proceeds will be split between the two charities designated.

I have run raffles like this for several years with great success at many fishing clubs on Long Island. The best was at the Lady Reelers Club where they contributed more than $1000 to the Send A Kid Fishing Program. I am hoping to break that mark at the Bash.

Happy New Year to all and see you next month.
