Looking for real world opinions from anybody running a Cabo 40 Express. Intend to fish the Northeast Canyons from Rhode Island. How is the range, fishability, ride, ect.? Thanks in advance!
Used to have a fellow next to me, that's exactly what he did, & the Captain who ran the boat, who's fished around the world, said the boat was 'killer'.
Boat trolls like a champ.
Don't remember much about the fishboxes, to be honest, as i recall on chunking trips they had to carry some boxes with ice.
He used to go to Turks & down there with her in the winters.
i own one. fish it extensively in the canyons off ny and in the winter for tuna off north carolina. this boat is absolutely awesome. fabulous layout. fabulous ride. very well thought out for fishability and storage of gear. a good number of people i know down south actually backed down from larger boats to the cabo 40 express. it is that good. mine has the man 800's. it flies and is efficient. handles anything i have been in with no problem. ride is similar to the viking 52 open but more nimble/easy to handle.
only thing is, i have a pre-brunswick cabo. the searay manufacturer has made some production changes which i think are not positive and make new ones, while still an excellent boat, not live up fully to the reputation of the brand. but if you can find a used one before (i think it is) hull 85 jump on it. contact me via pm if you want some more details or if you want ideas on how to set it up for carrying even more stuff (i have 31 rods and reels on it in hidden storage and things like that).
Cabo makes a good boat, my friend just got the 45 Cabo Open last year it is a very fast boat and rides good in sloppy conditions and is very dry with the big flare. Personally i think that there are better boats out there for the prices that they are asking for the Cabo is very high in price compared to other boats but the extra money you pay for Cabo it defiantly shows in detail and construction. I would personally look around a little bit at some other boats.
the Cabo 40 is one of the better hull that cabo has constructed... i fished on a 35 cabo years back and did not like the ride of it... it was a pounding, it could have something to do with being an owner of a downeaster, but i was really dissapointed in the ride. i have fished on a 40 and the layout of it was nice theres a lot of space and the fishability is acceptional along with the fish storage, but as for the ride it was a smooth day so couldnt tell you how it rides when the weather turns to ****.
