anyone have some experience with these?

I got a Cabelas Saltwater Catalog for the first time today (along with a Shooting and Master Catalog) and was wondering about these rods they look decent...

I think they're decent rods...had a chance to try one once but I thought the action was a little too stiff. But what do you plan to do in the surf? Is it for throwing bait & heavy lead or for slinging plugs? If it's for heavy bait then it may work. If it's for artificials then I would recommend something much lighter.

gotcha jYm1,
The Surf Striker is a well made rod. Nothing shabby there. It was a friend's and so I just tested it once and if my memory serves right the rod was buiilt very solid and tight! (looked very nice too) Again, for throwing bait I think it works best if you're throwing something very heavy (6oz+)...otherwise it wouldn't quite load fully.

"I own one"

As an owner of a "Surf Striker", my recommendation is to get one before there all gone. I purchased mine before last season using it right into Christmas in the surf, morning, noon & night. Used it with both bait & plugs. Has good action considering price... remember Cabela's isn't K-Mart, they design, manufacture & sell thousands of rods which are modelled after much more expensive brands using the same principles in actually building these rods. I bought the 11' model which I customized by adding a 2" long piece of lead shot(weighing 6oz.) which is consealed by a slip on hand grip down on the base of the rod. This tip passed on to me by a local "surf rat guru", serves as a virtual rocket launcher when casting bait & plugs up against the best of them at about 1/3 the price! Since strippers & bluefish don't care "who's serving up the meal... there only interested in the menu" when they have the feed bag on! Save the rest of your cash for tackle, bait, waders & beach permits... or match your rod with a "Penn 706Z" reel, a perfect match for this rod. Good Luck...
