For those of you who were feeling envious of fishing in CA offshore waters - here is a typical forecast this year. BTW, this was for Monday when I was scheduled on a 6 man charter on a 34' boat.

LABOR DAY
NW WINDS 15 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 3 TO 5 FT.
NW SWELL 10 TO 12 FT AND S 2 FT

Would you go? :) :) :)

Bah Humbug!

Enjoy the calm GOM!

Codmaster all you need is a side trip to Humbolt county before you head out on the waters. That should calm your nerves. :):)

PS: You live up in one of the prettiest part of the state.

Last time I was in Cali I drove from San Diego to Santa Rosa (which is where you now live Dick if I remember right). I booked offshore trips every night and every one got blown out...even though the Buoy Center showed favorable conditions offshore.

When I asked (ok, b!tched) to a captain about this he said "I know, but people look and see the chop nearshore and don't book."

Those Santa Anita? winds did stir things up a bit but still I was bummed.

I Lived in southern california from 90-95 and tried a head boat just once. Guys were wild throwing "iron" and I had enouf after 5 minutes. I spent my time fishing the piers both North & South of Newport Beach and always had a good time. I kind of now wish we had sites like this back then as I spent many hours in a helicopter over the ocean and could had saved the gps numbers from the boats all huddled over a small piece and shared them with whoever wanted to add me to the boat roster.
