A few days earlier i had posted a message, asking for input on Angler boats. I would like to thank somoan and others for all the usful info. As mentioned by you somoan; yes this would be my first boat. Though i have been fishing off of boats owned by friends, i really do not fancy myself as a pro when it comes to boat handling nor reading the sea's. Originally was looking at boats 25+ but was thinking of the 22 foot Angler as a cheaper boat to get my skill level up. After a lot of research and chewing every one's ears off, have narrowed down my short list to the following boats: 2470 Pursuit, 23-26 Regulator and 25+ Grady.
I would like to get input on these brands. I plan to fish 30-40 miles offshore. Once again thankyou for all the input given by you guys. Oh let me say that i found Angler to be very good boats. The reason i paased on them was one there shallow deadrise 17-19 degrees which in my poor judgement was not a plus point for rougher sea's offshore. But they were terrific boats for the bays and the sound. Hopefully one of these days i will catch you on the water somoan and you mentioned you were 27 and all those bills, I must say you are doing pretty good for you age, good luck to you and your new boat. Once again thank you very much for all the info given and would love to get info on the above mentioned brands. Also my email is [email protected].

Thank you

Thanks for the inpput max. I would love to get the specs. By the way is your 26' a FS model or their regular 26. I managed to find one dealer in LI as listed on their web site suffolk marine. Did you get your boat from them? Talking about budget well the pursuit 2470 is running 60K+ with twin four stroke yamaha and their 26 is acout 10-15 more.(Their list prices, does not mean i am not shoping around for a better price and haggling my head off lol) I have not priced the regulater yet but my assumption is that it should be in the same ball park. The specs i looked at of a regulater were very impressive 24 degrees deadrise and 48 degrees angle of the bow
and what little research i have done i have heard their build quality is excellent.

Add a Contender to the list

All the boats you mention are good boats. The REGULATOR is a great rough water ride.

If you are buying new, and decide on REGULATOR be prepared for a wait on delivery. They build "X" number of boats per year and distribute them to their dealers on a "ranked" basis. Suffolk Marine is an excellent dealer and one of the top REGULATOR dealers, nationally.

I was helping my nephew look for a Regulator in March and the next available batch to be ordered the way he wanted it set up was for late August/September at THAT time! By now it might be next year unless they have a demo or leftover available.

Consider looking at Contenders just to add another choice to your list. Similar to REGULATOR in quality and ride, a good offshore boat. I don't know about price comaprison.

Whatever you like, make sure you take it out for a sea trial!

Good Luck!

I dont own one (wish I did) but I do fish off of my friends 26 Regulator. The boat is unbelievable and if its in your budget take it for a test ride on a snotty day, you will not be dissapointed. Last year we took my friends 23 Reg. offshore (20-65 miles) quite a few times. Great ride.

polodod,

My father has a grady, there is not enough that can be said for that boat. Pursuit and regulators...also among my favorites! if you decide to stop by at Jimmy's (Sufolk Marine) let me know, I live really close by. I'll take you out on the angler, and maybe we'll drop some lines into the water.

Good Luck to you,

somoan

new boat

yes i bought my regulator from jimmy at suffolk marine..cant say enough great things about him..U went with the fs model for the 3 times a year the mrs and kid will be out..makes a great casting platform when the pads are off
whenever you want ill give you a spin
this boat is dry and the optional rap around enclosure is a must..they are on tracks and not snaps so min. wind gets through and keep in mind your going 35 knts into a 20 knt wind
she 1/4 into the sea great..and yes on a drift she sways alittle but its a small pair off to the lack of a beating
you dont get going 25 knts into 4 ft seas
e-mail me any questions and ill send u a pic

Contender vs Regulator??

Now that everyone is talking about Regulators and Contenders does anyone know where Contender is saving the huge dry weight difference (about 1700-2000) lbs) in the same 25'-26' class boat??? I would assume the Regulator just has more glass ... but that's a lot glass??? Just curious ???

SeaSwirl / Chumm

I don't own one ... but I do own a 1996 21' W/A Stratos which is also a (old world) OMC boat as SeaSwirl was/is. My feeling this class of boat are fair/good boats. But as far as this discussion goes most of these boats previously mentioned are in a class of their own i.e. Navy Battle Ship class!! And are 3x the price and boat.
