On Sportsfishing TV yesterday they were catching grouper with Butterfly Jigs and it got me to thinking about using them for fluke. These jigs are designed to catch vicious predators, of which the fluke happens to be one.

Has anyone out there tried them on fluke, bass or blue fish?

Although fluke will eagerly grab a jig fished on or just off the bottom I dont think it would be practical to target them with a butterfly jig. My reasoning would be that you would not be fishing the jig as it was intended to be fished. Butterfly jigs (when fished properly) require an aggressive crank and jerk which would spend more time out of the strike zone than in it. I guess you could use it like a diamond jig and just bounce it off the bottom but I would still say it wouldn't be as effective as some other jigs as it sinks too straight and fast where diomonds flutter and will often get hit on the way down...
