When bucktailing the race or the gut what kind of rig do you use? A three way (if so how much weight for the sinker and the bucktail?). I don't fish over there but thought about trying it at Montauk. Has anyone tried it at Montauk, and with what results?
Thanks, Lou

Others may know this subject better, but I'll describe how I rememeber the rigs that the Captain of the Prime Time III used to set up for us on his fall trips there:

Three way rigs with about a 10 oz sinker at the bottom and a 3 oz bucktail adorned with a fluke strip.

We would fish the rig about three turns off the bottom. The technique was to set the hook at the first hint of a fish bite.

Sportsman,
I've done it at Montauk mainly in Pollock rip, great eastern and the sub bouy. You'll have to experiment with sinker weight, you only want enough to let you tend bottom. Thin superbraid line helps, since you can use lighter weights. It a very arm wearing exercise but it will produce fish. I usually only do it if I know the fish are there and their not responding to other methods.
