this had happened about 3 years ago i put the rod in the garage and forgot about it just refound it the rod was only used 1 day and still has the stickers on it and i have the tip problem being they dont make this rod the same way anymore it has been changed so it is an obvious old model...guess it isnt worth fixing for a spare

Cut off any unsound material from the remains of the rod, measure the diameter in 1/64's of an inch and buy a new tip in that size. Install it using 1 SINGLE drop of 5 minute epoxy.

Will the rod have the same actions as before? No, but it will be usable.

Ok Dave,

I'll bite...why do you only say 1 drop of epoxy?

Curious.

1 drop is enough to secure the tiptop if it fits properly. And by using so little it is possible to remove the tiptop with a little gentle heat. NOTE: This only works with 5 minute epoxy, I don't know if it works with 2 ton. I refuse to use ferrule melt glue. I've have tiptops loosen from the heat of the sun with that crap.

Hi,

Ferrule cement/tip top cement that is make for fishing rods, Flexcoat, works great. You need a snug fitting of tip top to rod tip for best results. Too big a gap and too much TT cement is looking for trouble.

I made the mistake of using hot glue gun stick and found out the hard way that its melting temperature is too low.

I hate that stuff. I know it works well 99% of the time, but I have seen rods where ferrule cement fail from the heat of the sun. I've even had it happen to me to me once. So nope, I don't go there anymore.
