Okay, so today I go to Ft. Tilden to pick up my 2003 permit and there is a sign posted saying that 4WD permits stopped being sold as of March 18. I was abolutely livid!!
I then went inside and the guy tells me that they decided to limit the number of permits to 500 this year beacuse too many people were "abusing" the permits by picnicking and not fishing. I've been fishing that beach for the last 6 years and never saw more than one or two people at anyone time that weren't really fishing.
Worse yet, the permits did not even go on sale until mid February. When I asked why no one was notified about the change the guys tells me that the "Fishing Club" was notified and they APPROVED of the change. Well who the **** is the "Fishing Club" and who died and made them the boss??
He then offered to let me sign some type of waiting list, just in case they decided to sell more permits at later date, but he didn't seem to be very encouraging. This is ridiculus, Gateway is federal land and no "Fishing Club" has the right to limit our access. Sounds to me like locals who haven't left the place in last 30 years just wanted to keep everyone else out.
Right after I get done with this posting I plan to fire off letters to Chuck Schumer and ole Hilliary (like she even cares) to see if I can get some type of a response. I URGE EVERY OTHER SURFCASTER WHO HAS FISHED OR INTENDS TO FISH BREEZY TO DO THE SAME OR BE PREPARED TO HUMP IT IN FROM THE PARKING LOT.
