Break away hook on a Jig

Has anyone out there perfected the technique of a break away hook on your Cod fishing jigs? I have played with this on our charters, but I was never happy with the results. The idea is that when a Jig hangs up on the bottom, the hook breaks off before the line and leader.

Yeah we do. I use those for the deep water charters so if customers start to get tired and or get a haddock or big Cod. For the seasoned fisherman there are other benefits. Haddock has a softer mouth than cod so when you retrieve the reel has a nice easy slow speed up. Also when the small fish come up slower, they tend to go down better. When we get into 25+ pound fish in 300 feet of water, you will be very happy to have a two speed.
Since I am hooked on rod building, I am totally nuts when it comes to gear onboard our trips. We have great gear on board.
A customer hasn't lost a rod yet, but I know it's going to hurt when it does.
