Break away hook on a Jig

Has anyone out there perfected the technique of a break away hook on your Cod fishing jigs? I have played with this on our charters, but I was never happy with the results. The idea is that when a Jig hangs up on the bottom, the hook breaks off before the line and leader.

Not a fan of the break-away concept, but I haven't lost a single cod jig to the bottom since switching to assist hooks a couple of years ago. Gillnets are a different story.

This is off topic, but I just have to ask - do you really have two speed reels on your cod rigs?

When we get into 25+ pound fish in 300 feet of water, you will be very happy to have a two speed.Only if I'm wearing a ****tail dress and spike heels.

How's the acid wrap working out? Anybody try to fix the miss-aligned two piece rods yet?
