Guys,
Well we all know how supposrtive France and Germany have been recently. There have been lots of calls for boycott of French Products, but I haven't seen much in the way of calls for avoiding German products. How about a boycott of chrysler and Mercedes and BMW cars? Daimler Benz (makers of Mercedes and parent company of Chrysler) is one the biggest German companies and BMW's are also German. Maybe we should hit them where it hurts?

Why stop there? Ford, Rolls Royce, Volvo, Jaguar, BMW, Aston Martin, and Land Rover are all connected also. For instance Ford owns Land Rover. The 2003 Land Rover Range Rover is powered by a BMW engine. German engineering is very common in the automobile world.

I will not buy a Ford this year (wasn't going to anyway :) )

GM is OK though.

GM owns Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Subaru, Isuzu, Suzuki, Maruti, Daewoo / Ssangyong, Chevrolet, Buick, Opel , Holden, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, GMC, Saturn, and Saab. Oh-oh, isn't Daewoo Korean :)

Why does everyone still focus on what the French did in WW2, and why they still owe us for that? Weren't the Germans about a billion times worse (remember the Nazis and how they killed a ton of Americans?), and therefore, isn't Germany's debt to the US about a billion times more? Don't forget that German car companies (and therefore Ford), having a history of supporting Nazi Germany (and therefore killing Americans).

Now I am one to forgive and forget, especially if it happened before my time, but you guys should at least be consistent.

Or is the whole anti-French thing just a bad joke?

Should I get started on Japan now? :) 60+ years after Pearl Harbor, everyone here drives Hondas? The Japanese are responsible for an unbelieveable amount of atrocities against Americans and just about every other country that they have come in contact with. Yet,they are forgiven

You will find that most of the world owes the US more than France does.

Guys,
I agree that the Germans probably owe us more than the French, but they are both supposed to be our allies? Range Rover, they're Brits, who have been backing us to the hilt. I do own a chrysler car, but I won't be buying another anytime soon, especially if the Germans don't come around. Like Billy, I've been avoiding Mercedes and BMW for my whole life. :) FWIW, at least the Kuwaitis picked up a large part of the tab for us the last time around.

Land Rover is an American owned company now, using German parts and British labor.

Just wondering why everyone harps on the French, when the Germans, Japanese, etc, are worse?

Kuwait was attacked in large part because they were tapping oil reserves under Iraq. Personally, I think it was very clever, but the Iraqis felt differently. Kuwait paid the US $16+ billion for reclaiming the country from Iraq.

Story I heard, not sure if true but a good one anyway.

Back in the 60's when LBJ was president, the French PM (DeGaul) was pissed at us over something and sent a message demanding that all US Military personnell be taken off of French soil.
LBJ sent back a note with a question, " does that include all the military buried under those white crosses as well ?" Supposedly there was never a reply to that question.

Either way way you hash it history shows that the French are spineless pansies. Don't expect them to change any time soon. Like the rest of the world, they hate the US until something happens and they come crying to us for help.

FYI- Its all about money. The French are the biggest business/economic traders with Iraq. Of course they don't want a regime change. They were looking to lift the trade embargo not so long ago.
