I just bought a left over with a johnson 130 on it, and the dealer tells me that the warranty is effective upon delivery of the boat, and he said for a price I could purchase an extended warranty. The way it was explained to me was that if you purchase an evinrude/johnson since the take over that the warranty is valid, and only the consumers who purchased an extended warranty before the take over will lose only the extended warranty.
And as far as "fict" injection goes several dealers explained that there was a defect in the weld on a tank were the gas built up pressure, and the problem was completely resolved. So I think that the reputation due to the defect was the downfall of O M C, if nothing else it made the pricing a little more competitive.
