I live in the Smithtown and need a referral for trailer repairs. I have had some work done at trailer store in Commack and it seems to be comedy of errors in the making. In the mean time, I have lost three weeks because of my trailer because of some really bad workmanship.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I brought my 5 yr old E-Z load trailer in for disc brake pads. I was told that I needed calipers, rotors and pads. I also had the bearings repacked. Long story short, I took the trailer home with no breaks at all. Brought it back and had to have a new actuator installed. Ok...on the way home from Commack, the rear bearing cap blew of and grease was all over the place. I bought a new ones an re-installed them my self. Put my boat in two times and both times the rear wheels, the one where the breaks were replaced were red hot, to the point that they sizzled. Again grease flew all over the place. Something is wrong with this installation that wasn't there before. The breaks are not dragging as the trailer actually rolls with very little effort. There is much more to the story but basically, without mentionign the vendor, I really don't think they understand boat trailers the marine environment.

Very frustrated at this point.

almost sounds as if grease is getting on your rotor.:confused:

Or they didn't bleed them properly.:rolleyes:

No brakes and hot rotors and grease all over sounds like overtightened bearings:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: Thats whats getting the wheels hot.
On the other hand, the brakes could be rubbing the rotors and not working, heating up the rotors..........:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:....but you say they are not dragging.:rolleyes:
If everything was replaced, I'd like to think the place bled everything..........calipers, actuator......proprely.

But, check the bearings.................:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

They sell the entire disk brak kit (pads, calipers, rotors, etc) in catalogs like Northern Tool. It's a pretty simple operation to replace them yourself, and you can replace/repack the bearings while your at it and know it's done right by you.

You can also try Trailer Parts Superstore.
Their prices aren't bad and the shipping is pretty quick.

Those prices are not bad at all.
I had a drum brake issue on my trailer this spring:rolleyes:. Basically let?s just say I don?t have trailer brakes at the moment because when I looked into it in April the prices were too high so I made do. :rolleyes:

I will probably wait until winter then replace both assemblies.

There is a trailer place in Northport on 25A next to metro gas south side of road.I don't know any thing about them but looks like a professional business.
