I live pretty close to where the Shrewsbury River meets the Navesink.
An unscientific observation leads me to believe that boat traffic is down 60%. Also have seen only two cigarette boats so far.

Was wondering if anyone else in other areas have noticed a downturn in boat traffic?

half of the boats in the Rye municipal marina parking lot are still on poppets; some remain shrinkwrapped

the marina manager told me that, for the first time in his tenure, people who paid for slips back in February called him and asked for a refund; they were not splashing their boats at all this year.

The best thing that could possibly happen to fishing and the best thing for those of us looking for used boats!!!

A lot of boats by me are still up on blocks and wrapped. The marina seems emptier and my position on the waiting list dropped by 400 slots.

You can still get a mooring permit which is odd only because they are usually sold out by January.

I am hoping a few more stay out of the marina I am in. I am a ?bouncer? this year until I get a permanent slip assignment. So far so good,
I put my boat in on April 19th and only had to move once so far. While most of the slips seem to be filling up, there is still a handful I have my eye on. ;)

Lots of boats are still leaving the marina to go fishing, but from what I have seen they are not going all that far. Areas that have always had fluke, bass, and blues that are closest to the marina seem to have many more boats than I am used to seeing there. These areas were only sporadically fished previously but now a lot more boats are on the fish there.

The power skiers (cranking tunes, water skiing, wake boarding ect) I saw many, many times starting April 2007 through October last year I have seen a grand total on once this year so far. I used to see and hear them 4-5 times a week.

The really large luxury crafts seem to all be in their slips, but I have seen only one go out for so far, and that was only for about an hour last Sunday. A lot of the other ones the people are using, but not leaving the slip. They eat, drink, and party on the boat while it is in the slip. I notice that going on a lot more so far this season than in previous years.

It's funny you mentioned this topic. I live in Baldwin and just the other day me and the wife drove past some marinas. I noticed all the boats that were still in the yard and made her aware of it.
Also, I was fishing at Jones Inlet the other day and a Fishing Trawler was right outside the Inlet.I thought he was clamming.I guess he was saving gas money by not traveling far out.
By the way, Does anyone know how far off shore they have to be?

I am talking about one boat in particular. These guys are hardcore skiers, and pretty good too. Last year they started in early April
, of course wearing wetsuits but they were out there early and often

HEY, Good one.

Perhaps now we can desolve NMFS, we can manage the fisheries ourself s by not catching them, Don't watch the Whales from 300 YDS. ETC.

the few times ive been out this year, i still see the same ammount of idiots in their go-fasts burning a gallon of gas each time they throttle over a wave.

i could fish for the entire season in my little 4cyl merc for what these guys most likely burn in a day
