I'm looking for recommendations for a 23-25' walkaround that one can comfortably walk around in choppy seas. Most of the boats I've looked at have fairly narrow channels illsuited to following a fish around the bow. True World boats are one exception. I'll be using the boat mainly in the North Fork-Montauk areas for light-tackle fishing and periodic family days on the water. I'm looking more to a gently used boat than a new one.

Cvis300, try www.dusky.com, look at the 23' & 25' FAC's, esp. towards your question of room to get around comfortably. Used ones can be found at www.traderonline.com, but check the prices posted on their site for the new ones as well, they are very reasonably priced and the boats are built like tanks. I think Dusky also has some used boats for sale on their site as well.

Hey Matt did you forget GradyWhite:)

Cvis, Look at the GW's look at the GW Gulfstream, Deep channels, Wide beam, Closed transom, Great in the chop, dadada. Biggest 23' out there, Bigger than most 25's.
Also look at the Scouts, and Edgewaters(dealer?) As Matt said check out Traderonline. If nothing else you can use it to get ideas price wise and appearence wise, of many boats.
Not sure if you set a budget yet. Little easier to give you ideas if you have a price range....

Thanks for the feedback. I just took a look at the Dusky website. The walkaround design is sweet but the boat
appears to lack some comforts. Hard to tell from website. I'll investugate further. I'm familiar with the GW Gulfstream. I checked one out at the NYC Boat Show last yearsomewhat . I found that I had to contort my body to get through the cabin door even at just my 6' 190 lbs. The older models seem beeter designed in that respect. But I'm still leaning towards the GW based on its performance and construction merits. Pursuit has nice walkarounds but used ones are tough to find. My budget is about $25K.

i have a 25'prosports walk around.it has a swim platform built in also a small bow pulpit for mt anchor winch, i bought the boat as a left over from the previous year 2001 with a brand new yamaha 250. with the windless a vhf a garmin fishfinder,a garmin gps every extra that was made for that boat except
a hard top i have a bimini ,which i perfer, with tax and prep and all the rest of that good stuff the boat came to
less than 42k.now that i used the boat for a full seson i can tell you that i had it out in some serious sh-t and it performed real well.i run with the big boys.she's fast, smooth and safe .it has a live well a bait well .salt and fresh water wash down.its self bailing and it looks great .i bought the boat from seaview boat sales and these people are fantastic. so if you are looking to save some bucks i would look at a left over hull with new power ,who's going to know

Boat shows

Go to the shows and see what you like. Speak to a few people and let them know that you may want to buy something late modell that someone is trading in.

I have a Parker 23 Sc and I am very happy with the boat. Try and stay with something higher end as they hold there value more.

Eastern 27

I've been lurking in the background exploring how to get a good powerboat. Going from sailing to power, age you know. Use will be in Narraganset Bay to Block Island with some fishing. We want the downeast pilothouse style and am going to look a 1996 27' Eastern with a 1998 Merc 350, Bravo-3. Any good/bad reports on this boat?

Get ahold of last month's "Offshore" magazine as there was a 5 page article with mucho pics and good lengthy owner interview input on that exact boat.

If it were I, I would also call Eastern and ask them if the boat you are looking at is a solid glass hull or if they built it as a cored hull.

Then make your own decision as to your comfort level with whatever Eastern tells you.
