New Boat

Welcome aboard. If you want to research some magizines go to the library and look at the last year of boat ratings in the Boating World. They have price and the way the boat handled a seatrial.

First, what are you ging to do with the boat, fish or cruise?

Second, how many people in your family and there age, this way you can grow into the boat.

Third, where are you going to do most of your boating and find out what the sea conditions are where you are going to spend a better part of your time? If the conditions are nasty sometimes you might consider quality over price.

#4 and the biggest everyone seems to think is PRICE. The first thing you should reliaze is that when you buy a new boat the minute you take ownership you are losing at least 20% if not more. That is why I put PRICE at # 4.

Have you ever owned a boat before?

I used to do the NY show, The Nassau show, and the Tobay in water show in Sept. I worked for Great Oak for 3 years doing this part time. I liked there product until they changed there hull and transom design, which most of the dealers have done. They had 2 lines at the time which where Seaswirll, which was mostly a fishing type boat, and they also carried Regal which was a cruising type boat. Reagls went to 42' and Seaswirl went to 26'.

If you would really would like some help e-mail me at [email protected] and we can take it from there. I have a pretty good idea whats out there and I may be able to steer you from bad things.

Chat soon,

Powerboat Reports is a great resource, too.

Powerboat Reports is the "Consumer Reports" of the boating world. Their reviews of boats and boating related products are excellent - they tell it all - the good, the bad, and the ugly. It is well worth the modest yearly subscription price. They have a "Boat Reviews" section, and it is worth looking at if you have an idea as to the make and model of boats that you are interested in. If you want to read articles in the archives, you must pay a fee for the article, but you can download it on the Internet.

Thanks so much guys for your responces. Right now I have a 19 foot Wellcraft center console with a 115 Johnson that works well. Its a 1997,but Im looking for maybe something a little bigger. i troll alot in the fall with wire in the New York Bight area around Ambrose, and in the knoll,Westbank..e.t.c...I have narrowed down some good boats with very good reps, but I also know that there are some up and coming boats that are getting better. One is a Edgewater, another is a Scout. I relly want a Sea Craft 23,Regulator 23 or a Mako 221,or a Parker 23 DEEP VEE. I would rather have at least 20 degrees deadrise due to rough water driving and know that to have that I need a larger motor and while drifting I will pay a price.I was wondering if some of these off brand name boats can compare to the more popular ones, like the 221 Mako,23 Seacraft e.t.c? Thanks for any input,Davey:)I will check all the ideas you guys have giving me.......

Parker 23 SC

Dave.....I have a 23 Parker SC (sports cabin) and it is a very seaworthy boat. Also no canvas. It has about 80 sq ft of ****pit space and has a 21 degree dearise, carries a 150 gallons of fuel. The boat comes standard with one W/W. The only downside is the the boat weighs in at 5500 lbs with fuel and the engine so I would get at least a 225 on the back. I have the Yammie 200 HPDI series on it and it is just mot enough. I am considering trading in the 200 for the new 250 HPDI which is a larger block engine, 3.3 compare to a 2.6 liter. Other than that the boat is good but everything is an option on the boat. Rocket launchers, spreader light, trim tabs, raw water w/d,pulpit, windlass, coaming pads, upgraded seats, passenger seat can be changed into storge locker with seat, carpeted headliner and walls, extra W/W and st. side forward window that opens. I have all these options on the boat. Total was about 48K.

The nice thing about it when it is cold out just close the cabin door and you are out of the elements. In fact one day it we where going to have frost in the am so I snaked a electrical cord through the anchor locker and had one of those tip proof portable heaters I put in the night before and turned it on low, the cabin door was warm when I got there. Everyone else was scaping the frost from there windshied.

I put some nice electronics on it also, Northstar 952 GPS, Furuno FCV600 color F/F, Furuno 1730 4 kw radar with a crt display and and Intrepid radio that is interfaced with the GPS that has a distress button on that when activated sends a signal to the CG of your location.

Hope this helped.

Bill
