I just got done painting the bottom of the boat. Just have to polish and wax the hull and she's ready to go. Just curious how others prep the hull. Do you compound it first? What brand of wax and polish do you prefer? I want her to shine!

Getting ready

So far I painted bottom. Next I will wash hull. Then I use colinite cleaner wax. Then I(colinite) wax. Last thing I do is tape the waterline and touch up with bottom paint. I do this last so the wax does not get into the paint.

As far as the topsides go I wash, compound and then wax. Compound is usually "fiberglass rubbing compound" and the waz is always collonite boat wax. Shew shines like she was new before she hits the water.

Since I usually get very little help and do most everything myself I usually err on the side of "easier and faster." I use "one step" which is a combo cleaner and wax and for me I think it works great. I put it on with a very very fine scotch-brite pad (very fine- doesnt mess the gel-coat)which I keep quite damp. I do it by hand (I only have a 21 footer so its not too bad). Doing it by hand with the scotchbrite with the one step allows me to wax-on wax off quickly, yet give that little extra elbox grease in areas that need more attention. I found the trick to this stuff is to rub/scrub it on...and take it off then just a quick light buff with a soft towel.. If you let it dry hard then its a B*Y&Tch. But like I said I find it works great

Would a second coat of wax help out ?? Yesterday I first did the hull
with the collonite cleaner and then used the collonite wax but to me it seems like the hull is not as shiny as last year when I just used the wax and not the cleaner ??
