Jets28,

Not sure about Wantagh, but Captree charges a daily fee..either 5 or 7 bucks. An empire pass might work there, but I'm not sure. It's a great facility but can get kinda crowded during weekends. You can take your trailer onto the Robert Moses parkway heading south at Sunrise Hwy (27) or Montauk Hwy (27A), but make sure you get off at one of those when heading back north...otherwise, you'll get a ticket.

You don't need any specific ramp pass for Captree, or probably any of the state parks. You can just pay everytime you go, otherwise, you can get the Empire Pass for $59 and use all the state parks with unlimited access. I picked up the Empire Pass at the Robert Moses Park Police office.

You can get to Captree by taking the Parkways. You can only trailer technically from Merrick Road/Montauk Highway South on the parkways, but I've never had a problem, and have even seen cops, while trailering off of Sunrise. Just be wary of the bridges for Loop Parkway and Merrick Road on the Meadowbrook.

You can trailer your boat from Sunrise Hgy. to any of the boat ramps on the South Shore via the Parkways. No problem!
FYI
If you are 62yrs or older, just show your DL at the gate for FREE entry at any of the State Parks, weekdays only!
Good Luck& happy trailering !

You may want to consider one of the private marinas. Usually if they have a ramp it is better maintained than the public ramps and have smaller crowds. They are more expensive but many of them will be happy to sell a season pass at an attractive rate for upfront cash.

Theres an admin building in Wantagh park (Nassau County park). If you use the ramp in longbeach/point lookout you can access Meadowbrook pky from merrick road and trailer your boat south with no problems from the law. you need no sticker or permit there.
