That's terrible,
I only do 5 mph in the dark, better safe than something like this happening.
Very sad

Apparently he went out of the navigation part of the channel and went around the wrong side............:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Looks like a pretty new boat.......wonder how much boating experience he actually had..........:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Quite clear that it wasn't enough..... Unfortunately that seems to be the case with most boat operators. Thank God it was a bridge support and not an innocent bystander. Ashame his inexperience took his life, maybe a lesson to others on the water. May he RIP.

Wouldn't doubt drugs or alcohol played a part...:rolleyes:, seen plenty of morons on a Friday or Saturday night go out in the bay and drag around like they had race cars zipping thru the bay at night around the crab buoy's,...pulling donuts....and other crazy turns, sometimes unfortunetly with said results.

Eason we have 5 MPH at the bridges now is because those kids hit the Big M in the late 80's or 90's nad the mom blamed everyone but her own kid who ran the boat. Jersey is looking at 12 MPH limit in the bays after the boat collision 2 weeks ago. Won't be long for boating licenses and speed limits all over

Sorry for the typo guys. I meant to say me neither. Seriously though there are way, way too many people running around TOO **** FAST!! Just yesterday I'm at my slip on Gerritsen Creek cleaning my boat and a coup;e of jet skis flashed down the channel at about 40 MPH. 4o MILES PER HOUR!!!!!. It's an accident waiting to happen.

Know exactly what you are talking about. I get my gas up thru there and those jet-ski's are just moving to fast and waiting for an accident to happen

I think CT already has a speed limit on all or most of its waters.besides no-wake zones, I've never heard of any speed limits (unless they exist on the inland rivers)

GVerb and I were discussing this on the ride home yesterday and agreed that you simply can't be too careful

Wondering

I wonder if the tides had anything to do with the accident. A full moon the other day and if it was high tide would have meant considerabily less room under portions of the bridge. He may have been used to flying underneath it and didnt take that into account. A foolish way to go.

Given where this accident happened and that the members on this site are primarily NY'ers....it would stand to reason that there are some Noreast members that know the victim.

Let the cops and MP figure it out.....that's what they're trained to do.

According to NOAA charts there is 12 MPH speed limit in the State Boating Channel on the South Shore of Long Island. For all practical purposes it is not enforced.

They werent in the state boat channel looks like they were running the shore line heading west and didnt realize the height difference shame a young life cut short :(

tragic:rolleyes: the low sections of RMB are low regardless of tides plus they are around the flats of the bay. they must not have known the area.

I welcome a boating license with open arms. people need to be protected from themselves.
