Had to do it....forgive me...

Well, as you all know the L.I. Sound Blue Fish bite has been pretty hot with nice size "sadlebags" working the shoreline. Everytime I catch one of these suckers it still blows me away how such a big fish can be so close to the shore. Every Blue over ten pounds makes me have a new appreciation for what a sportfish they are.

I kept one fillet today to make some fish cakes. Boy did they come out good. Almost tasted like conch fritters.

Hey guys,

Yes the fish was bled, filleted and all the dark meet taken out.

I tried something different this time. This is what I did and they came out delicious.

In one frying pan I sauted some garlic, onion, hot red peppers, banana peppers and green peppers. Added salt, pepper, parsley. The last minute I added about a half a cup of grated Locatelli cheese and breadcrumb. Cooked them all up and put aside.

One pot I steemed the fillet, another pot I cooked a few potatoes.

Hand mashed the potatoes and fish together. To that mixture I added eggs, worcerster sauce and just a little breadcrumb.

Made them into balls.

Dipped in flour

Then in egg

Then in bread crumb

Fried them up in half olive oil and half cooking oil.

Made my tarter sauce with just mayo, dill pickles and pickle juice.

always amazes me that people don't eat them... fresh fillets in a bowl of milk overnight is all it takes. Never frozen though

forget overnight all you need is an hour or 2.

**** that looks good Barb!! I will have to try that. Until now my favorite has been bluefish oregenata.

Sounds yummy. I don't mind bluefish at all. I have to figure out a way to bleed them though since I don't have a livewell. I was thinking of using a large cooler and filling it with salt water then just transferring the bled fish to an ice cooler and dumping the blood water out my scuppers but that sounds like a ton of work and mess.

I am going to try that recipe with a few different types of fish and see what I get.
