Hi,

I'm a big fan of Batson's Rainshadow blanks. I've have limited experience building rods, but I think the Rainshadow's are quality blanks and are an excellent value. The wrapper is empty and I'm itching to start a new project. I'd like to build a rod to use for the Montauk cod run (Partyboat). I'll probably team the rod with a Saltist 50H.

What would you recommend in the Rainshadow line? I'm looking at something in the RCLB series.

Thanks

KUT,

the heaviest blank the make in that line is the 80M which is rated 20-50, this is probably the one to go with but considering it starts with a 7.5 tip, its going to have to be cut, not sure how much because i have never bent this blank so the problem may be that by the time you get it to the right stiffness it may be too short unless your looking for something about 7'

Rodwinder,

Let's assume I expand the choice of blanks I'm willing to use. Given my limited expertise and prior experience with Rainshadow was the primary reason for listing Rainshadow as my preference. I don't want to spring for an expensive blank until my skills get a bit better. Are there any blanks that you would recommend to a novice that would meet me my intendeded use?

Thanks

Kut I am assuming you talking about montauk local cod?

I have a SWB70MH e-glass blank that I used for cod this season in montauk and caught fish to 25lbs.I think an 8' like the SWB80H would work good for this. For Montauk cod you dont need the heavy stuff like used up North. Its mostly bait fishing and I never had to use more than 16oz. lead when using braid.

Check out batsons salt water e-glass blanks there very easy on the wallet and quite durable.Great blanks for the money.

Captain Neil stocks these and has them available for purchase.

cannot give you better advice than Togilator
.....the SWB 80MH Or SWB80H would be the ones to look at... If Captain Neil does not see this thread send him a PM he may have both in stock for you to look at.

Hi,

I stock the 7'M, 7' MH, 7 1/2'MH and 8'H. One angler has a 7'10" H and another angler has a 7'9" MH. These were designed for cod. The MH is a great tog rod using 10-16 oz sinkers. It also makes a very good 3 way swivel bucktail 8 oz sinker striper rod for the east end. Diamond jigging big blues/stripers is easy.
