Cholera Tog
I agree with Leprechaun I have fished as late as the first week of December out there and have had some decent sometimes very good togging to no more than 8 pounds with many between 2-4 pounds plus straggler small cod we had 3, two years ago between 5- 7 pounds December 5th. My experience is the fish there are smaller on average than the 17 brutes but the bottom is real fertile generally lots of action, VERY LITTLE SLOW PERIODS, you should catch tog dinner at least through early December.
The only time I fish 17 is with soemone else as my boat has been put to bed.
Boating out of Jones Inlet TO Cholera is like 7 or so miles a shorter run than 17 but you have a different problem. You have no lee other than a dead on north wind still traverses about 9 miles over open H20 : a west wind, a NW wind and a SW wind provides quite a fetch 20 miles plus over open water so though a shorter ride than 17 you have no nearby land mass New Jersey the NY Bight breaking the seas. A steady 15 out of the nw will give you a tight 3-4', hit 20 just about any direction will hit 5 feet perhaps a little higher, fishable but tough for tog, especially if you are fishing there late in the season not alot of people out there if you get hung up.
Take a look at one of those maps and you will see more clearly than ever what I am trying to get at, see you Gary.
