C&R with artificals is legal in a lot spaces in NY year round. Freshwater guys should read up on the DEC regulations (handbook or online). Now if your keeping the fish its a totally different story, punishable by a hefty fine and confiscating all of your gear. If you see somebody keeping fish out of season, call it in, put DEC in your cell phones!

Not complaining, BUT

report is missing many details. No need to spot burn, but a little more info would make your report worth reading. We don't even know what state your from.

Maybe even what the conditions where, time of day and your killer lure.

That goes for Nassau county too. C&R is allowed in a few lakes in suffolk all year, but in Nassau it is C&R Only, and only when the season is open.

From the handbook

For Suffolk County:

All waters except Lake Ronkonkoma, Belmont Lake, Artist Lake, Blydenburgh Lake and Fort Pond.

Black Bass- 1st Sat in June - Nov 30 15" length 5 - limit

Dec 1 - March 15 catch and release only

Note : It is ILLEGAL to fish for bass during the period March 16 through the Friday preceding the 1st Sat in June

Artist lake and Belmont Lake - Black Bass open all year Catch and Release only

Walleye and Pickeral aren't open yet either so I hope you are catching these fish on trout lures. If DEC sees you using big stuff it will certainly look like you are targeting these fish and that is a ticket.

S. Hampton.

I am not sure, but i have heard that the Town of S. Hampton has special regs as far as their fish and lakes are concerned. Something to the effect that it goes back to the days of Kings and Dukes...I know there was a court action over the ramp at Wildwood lake and S.Hampton won....Maybe Bucktail will be so kind at to clue us all in on this matter.....

hey flukerr: The town Trustees get their power from the Dongan Patent when in 1641 Kin George gave them control of all the waters in the Township and all the fish and shellfish therein. They are held in trust for the residents of the town. The deal wiht the Wildwood ramp was the state trying to take jurisdiction over the Town by saying that since we built the ramp, you have to let non-resident anglers fish here. The State lost. It seems that the State gave up on fresh water in the Town. It sucks if yer not a resident, I admit, but it works if you live here.
