any of the "experts" on here want to chime in on the ID of this monster seen about 8 miles south of Montauk?

Inconclusive.....From that vid it would be a guess.

She was about 20-22' long, I claim it was a basking shark but def inconclusive. It's a little clearer in the original movie, when I upload to youtube you lose a little.

I'd say a basking but it is inconclusive. It certainly isn't a "Whale Shark" as somebody yells out. That's obvious. Here's a chart that might help.

It is hard to tell but from what i could see of the dorsal it definately looks like a basking to me

The coloration and the shape of the head implies basking shark

basking shark...you can see when it turns towards the end of the clip it has its gills flared as its filter feeding..then spooks and retracts them...also the brown coloring is a giveaway

Looks very "Bask-in-eee" to me. They are still nice to see out there up close and personal. Nice film footage too.
