One Phil Eastman, apparently a more adept Norwegian scholar than myself (doesn't take much), opines that the fish weighed 46kg gutted, not bled, and that the estimated whole weight was actually 56kg, roughly 121lbs...

I spoke to Al about that fish. He caught it on a set line that he was tending for a Freeport fisherman whose boat was broken down. They put the fish on display at the Nassua Boat Show sitting on ice in the ****pit of a Groverbuilt they had on display. He ended up eating the fish after it spent a week on ice at the show. He had said they brought in over 2500 lbs of cod that day. Didn't even realize how big the fish was until he got back to the dock. It was just he and his wife on board as I recall the story. Happened in the late '70s.

Anyone remember, or have any details on, the NYS record codfish, think it's 85lbs or something? I believe it was caught out of Montauk at CIA in the early 80's. Wondering if anyone here saw it, or knows someone who did.
The story behind Grover's big cod is great
. Unbelievable, it was caught right out of Freeport, just 30 some years ago.

That was some fish.

I remember a mount of a huge codfish there, wasn't aware that that was the fish. It must have been unbelievable to see it live, though
!
Fred Shay fishes the Viking a lot, correct? I've heard about him from other Viking regulars, not sure if I've ever seen him, though.
