I went fishing yesterday and caught a 12" bergall. I thought it was a tog until I looked closely. I cannot believed they can get that big.

Are they good to eat? Are there any size limit or number limit?

You may have a world record there! ;)

I'm not aware of any size of bag limit (yet). As to eating, they are edible but very very boney. My father had told me there are old Italian recepies for making a kind of fish soup/chowder out of them but I haven't been inclined to try it.

I steamed a big one this summer, they are fine.
Same here with robins, but I still haven't had a green-eyed monster

Many Years ago I placed one bergall and one tog in the oven side by side. They were both about 12 inches long. Note that this blackfish was legal back in those days.

At the end of the cooking procedure, it was impossible to tell them apart, either by appearance or by taste.
