Trying to get some guys rounded up for July 7th possibly 8th. It'll be a BFT jigging and popping only trip....NO Trolling!!

Want to fish with Captain John on the hooked Up II. So far it is me, friend Mike, and possibly Paul 708. Feel free to send me a pm, respond here, or contact Capt. John at 609-425-1970.

Captain John wants to really do this, but needs enough guys to warrant sailing out there with current fuel prices.

He knows where the fish and we know how to catch them, well he does too LOL. Let's get some summer time BFT with fish around 100lbs. They're here and ready to eat jigs.
Who's in???
PS- John wants to break the 200lb mark this year on jigs.

Figured I add some more info after getting some pm's.

Capt. John runs out of Cape May, NJ. The trip will be leaving real early in the am, he mentioned around 2am or so.

In his post in other thread he mentioned around $325 per person.

John's a great guy and the fishing down there is great. We caught a nice fish and I lost a good fish too when we chartered a few years back It was in June too. Double digit bft catches are common down there and John is a real pioneer in that inshore fishing. If I wasn't going to Texas this week I would consider the trip.

I'd be interested since I live 5 minutes from the boat so I could be a replacement on short notice. However I don't have any short jigging sticks and I never threw poppers for tuna. My jig rods are long and meant for use on partyboat rails.

Thats ok, John has some jigging master rods for this type of fishing. Plus between me and friends we have plenty. I don't expect from the pooping though. Its mostly gonna be jigging.

Tom, don't worry about it. You'll do as good with your long rod as guys who use short jigging rods. :) When I experimented Japanese jigging style for bluefin out of Cape May, there were time Japanese style jigging were very effective, but most of time tuna hit slow moving jigs. Forget about tuna popping when fish out of Cape May, NJ.

How bout you Kilsong, interested?

Kilsong is right. 90% of the time i end up using my 7-8 foot rods because yo-yoing with hammered diamond jig works best. I will semi speed jig when fish are in the middle wwater column or when the bites slow down. It keeps me occupied, plus i feel that i am fishing harder when doing this. Most of my BFT hits are on the fall and close to bottom when fishing the inshore lumps.

I am leaving to Texas for 76 hour big E trip tomorrow.
I don't know whether I go down to Cape May or Virginia for bluefin jigging or go up to Cape Cod for bluefin popping after the Big E trip as Capt Dom told me they hooked up two giants on poppers in Cape Cod Bay a few days ago, but unfortunately they lost both of them.

As you fish only 100 - 120 ft water, it is a good idea to jig from the bottom with Japanese style jigging as Cape Cod boats did very well for bluefin with Japanese style jigging on Stellwagen Bank last year.

Dick, I thought you quit fishing. :)
Yes, we need to go fishing together soon.

Lumpy Bottom and Massey's were pretty hot. One boat released 12 bluefin at Lumpy Bottom a few days ago. All normal spots should hold bluefin soon. My friend is making a scout trip tomorrow, but unfortunately I can not join them. Jigging usually works great in early bluefin season.

Kilsong good luck on the Big E again. Take lots of photos too.

I'll be heading out tomorrow as it seems to be our only window for a while on the smaller boat.

Raekwon and Meirowitz it would be nice to see you guys make it out there with us. Capt John won't sail until he gets at least 5 people. The only 2 definates are me and friend.

I'd call Captain JOhn to be sure. I posted his number in earlier post.

Hey Ken on the way to the shore I stopped by in Philly on Columbus Blvd and lined up 2 hotties for you. They said and quote "We hope the fish aren't too big.... because your friend is going to need all the energy he has for us..." I'll leave it at that.

Talked to Capt John yesterday, and he said he thinks he has 5 people. So theres room for one more.

I fished on Wed and did not get to the good spots that we like to fish. We still did very well. So this trip should be killer!!

Who wants in?
