I'll preface this by saying I'm not a big fan of credit cards....got rid of all but one years ago.

But there was a guy on the radio this morning saying he takes his family of four to Europe every year for ZILCH because he uses an airline card for all his purchases....food, gas, everything.
Well if this is the case then maybe I'd like to look into it.

Went to this website but I'm a little leery because they accept CC advertising

CC RATING

So anyway, does anybody have any recommendations/experience with this stuff?

Thanks

I have a half dozen credit cards - but I never carry a balance. Never.

Amex is good. Miles don?t expire and you can use on any airline. Annual fee.

Just got Jet Blue Amex because I fly them a lot and you get 50 Points for joining. Jet Blue?s system is book on line for 8 pts and you fly round-trip when you reach 100 pts. Downside is the points expire in a year if you don?t use them. With this card the points don?t expire. Annual fee

Capital One is good for any airline but to get most trips you need to spend $ 50,000. I don?t believe the miles expire but 50K is a lot to spend. I use for company purchases but it still takes a while. No annual fee.

Gas cards aren?t a bad idea either. They don?t get miles but they?re free and I get 4 % back on Getty/ Lukoil and 3 % back on E/M.

Just remember??always always pay off your monthly balance or you?re not getting anything for free.

I use the american Express card becuase you can use their point on almost every airline and you can also get merchandise. Their points never expire and you can move them to whatever airline has the best deals when you want to fly.

IMO the best CC is the Pentagon Credit Union Visa card. You do not have to be in the Military to join. Retired, or disabled get a free much deserved pass. Any one else make a donation of $200. for lifetime, to military families. Or about $20 yearly.

Benefits: 5% on gas, 2% Super markets, 1& 1/4 on everything else. This money is taken off your bill every month. You don?t have to worry about miles expiring or blackouts, you can buy your own airline tickets.

I am not sure what the interest rate is because I never paid any. I pay the bill in full each month. You will never get anywhere on any CC if you carry a balance. I heard a financial person on the radio say if you carry a CC balance past one month you are living over your head. I got this card on the recommendation of Bob Brinker (financial radio) I have had it for about three years, so far its good.

Great credit union. They pay the highest cd rates in the country. I'll start using my Pentagon credit card for gas, a 5 % rebate on gas is pretty good. I buy my gas at BJ's and it cost $3.51 a gallon , so I'll save an additional 18 cents a gallon with the credit card. $3.32 a gallon is alot better then $3.70 a gallon :)

But for everything else, I'll use my Dicks sporting goods card. I get a $10 gift card for every $300 spent . I use these gift cards to buy my fishing tackle/hunting gear . I use my card for everything to get points. I use my card to pay my car insurance, buy all my food etc. I charge everything I can, even when I buy an 89 cent pretzel at BJ's. a point is a point and its nice getting all that nice fishing tackle for free. I rarely use cash anymore.

never made another donation.
If you invest in CD's, wait until January of every year. Pentagon federal raises their cd rates in January. They increase the rates about 1 percent higher.

If you take the Pentagons 1& 1/4 on everything plus the 2% at supermarkets I think you will come out ahead of Dicks card. Dicks gave me a sticker to put on my card so when I actually buy there I get the points.

Thanks guys.

I agree about the Pentagon Federal CU, I've been a member since 2001. Great rates (new vehicle 4.25% now), easy online transactions and it's nice to be able to call them and speak to a LEGIBLE HUMAN BEING 24/7.

But I'm specifically interested in air miles....with no annual fee, on-line payment, no blackout dates and no annual fee.
I see a few on that link I posted (I hate CapitalOne but it looks like they have a good deal) but I'm not sure how 'easy' it is to cash these things in or how many miles 'on-average' a person can expect to accumulate over the course of a year.

I'd pay it off every month and it would be nice to get free airfare for spending money you're gonna have to spend anyway.
