I'll give the weight thing a twirl..

where you are fishing, how much water, moon phases, winds, what type of line you fish all make a difference on how much lead you need. You can fish out in the Ocean on a heavy tide and need over 10 oz. one day go back a week later and fish on a slow tide and use 4 oz. I know out near Orient you usually need a little more weight.
You can fish the North Shore Port jeff to untington and use get aweay w/ 4-5 oz and 2-3 if you're usinmg braided line. As I said it all depends on tides, moons phases and alot of othetr things to figure out the porper oz. to hold bottom. Hope this helps a little.

Give some respect guys!

Hey guys it is real sad to see a fellow Nor east member be questioned on a post he puts in the reports section! I have seen this many times and it is unfair to question some post with out any prior knowledge of them posting a false report. I was invited out with Baywatch along with other guys from the Nor east board, Ecnewellman, and Skate master. I know Ecnewellman for years and is one of the top rod man around. I met Baywatch from this site and is a very good fisherman. Skatemaster is a man of knowledge in not only fishing but tackle. For anyone to question or accuse any member of a false report is very un fair and wrong to do! Please before you insult someone on a great day think if that was you and give them the benefit of the doubt. If you don?t know someone don?t ASUME! Lets be nicer to each other it won?t kill you. Don?t be jealous. Be courteous to others it will go a long way. On that note let me say thank you to Bill
Baywatch for a great fun day not only was the fishing great the company was better. This trip was all because of this site. We met here and proves this could work for all those willing to treat each other with respect. Good luck to all and Kindness won?t kill!

186 logic lead

Hey logic the question you asked about the lead is simple. You don't want any lead. you want to be as straight up and down as possible! Most people don't realize this causing there fluking to suffer. I personally like to keep a slow lift going off the bottom. I fish 12 to 16" off the bottom. Then when I get a bite I tip my rod all the way to the water and give a slow lift and when he follows it up just start reeling to set the hook. Many times people lift to fast and miss the hook set. This is a feeling you must develope with practice.
Hope this helps tight lines.

Thx for the tips guys. For the record I don't think that questioning someone's story is inappropriate...we all know there are some big storytellers out there. Mook2827 also had the good courtesy to admit he was wrong and offer congratulations. This kind of stuff is harmless and entertaining!

Stories

Yes I do agree with many about story tellers. But you cannot question some ones post unless you have facts? That?s like being guilty before proven innocent! Yes there tendencies for fish tales. But without the facts we must not accuse some one of lying?
In my eyes you believe it or not for yourself. Don?t belittle someone on the board unless you know there is a fishtail in the making. Something harmless maybe but if you had a good catch you would be insulted by some one questioning your credibility not knowing who you are. Yes after the facts those did apologize but it was uncalled for in the first place. Or maybe a better way of questioning would have gone over in a nicer way.
All I?m saying is think before you bash? And have the ammo to shoot. Tight lines

Fish Tales

Thanks for all the support and nice comments. We where in about 70-77 ft of water east of the reef. Ther where no other boats around and part of the Captree fleet where in front of the water tower by Ocean Beach. We were headed there and someone said lets try here. 4 sinkers went over the side and within 2 minutes we hooked up. It went on that way for a while. Best Day for me this year.

Flukinit.....The boat is a Parker 23 Sport Cabin with a 200 Yammie HPDI on the back.
