I don't go barbless on stripers but I discovered that 7/0 gamakatsu octopus circle hooks don damage the fish as much as other hooks I've used in the past. As a matter of fact, most of the time the 7/0 hook will lodge itself in the corner of the mouth between the upper and lower lips and it could be safely removed with a set of long nose pliers without causing damage to the fish. I do not use my hands to remove the hook because it will involve to much pushing and pulling and that could hurt the fish.

I don't think barbless has caught on (no pun intended) with bait fishing as it has for fly fishing and some other artificials.

I think the nature of our fish strike a baited hook makes hookup and staying hooked up more difficult with a barbless hook.
