Headed up to Bar Harbor for some R&R, haven't been there in years. Planning to do all of the typical Acadia Tourist stuff but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to where the locals go for lobster up there. There was a recent article about the low prices on lobster up in Maine due to over supply but when I called the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound they quoted me $11/lb!

I can do better than that here.

Also stopping in Portland on the way up and Portsmouth on the way back so any suggestions on "must see/must do/must eat here would be appreciated.

Scott - I just spent a few days there - wish it had been longer. The 40+ miles of carriage trails in Acadia Park seem like a really nice way to see the park - you have to hike it, horseback or ride a bike.

The Freeport, ME area is LL Bean plus a load of factory outlets - your spouse may enjoy this...

Lobster rolls in town ranged from $15 to $20 from what I could see - you can probably do better outside of downtown. The few places I ate all offered fish and chips with fresh haddock - tasty and not too$$$. Say $9 on average. On the way into Mt Desert Island there were a few roadside stands with fresh steamed lobsters - we never had the chance to try them. They'll be on your right and have the wood fires/steamers outside - hard to miss.

Cadillac Mountain sunrise - first place to see the sun on the eastern seaboard.

The 3.3 mile hike around Jordan Lake is not too hard and its fun.

Do you mean BAAH HAABA ??? If you do I would go by way of Bath,Brunswick Rt 1 Coastal route. (Pronounced Rouuuuut) Swing by and we will talk or whatever. (No dancing) but the banja will be a playin !! For the best lobster roll (Lobsta)Wiscasett will be your stop. Reds Eats, You have to stand up and eat !! No joke. for about $20 you'll have the best lobsta anywere. Rt 1 is a great ride up through Bath (City of Ships), Damriscotta, Rockland, Rockport, Camden Lincolnville, Belfast, Stockton springs, Bucksport, Elsworth then down to Baah Haabba.

great ride that only takes about 1 1/2 hrs. Traffic permitting, more than Gary's map. that is a little quicker to go back that way without all the scenery.

Scott and his family just stopped over

Stayed just a few minutes and headed to Portsmouth. Wish we could have talked more. he invited me to the Lounge Lizard Fishing trip so I'll be there !!!!!
