BANG STICKS

Just a thought-if anyone trys to use blanks in a shotgun, use must be aware, most blanks are loaded with black powder which is very corrosive in a marine envoirment, this goes for your signal flares as well! If you use a firearm-clean it right away!

shooting tuna ???

I have been fishing and BUYING giant tuna for export to japan for 14 years now.
NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER seen a tuna with a bullet hole in it.
You would be laughed off the cape if you shot your giant.
In addition, as a buyer I would be very leary of a fish with a bullet hole in it. ( this fish would be totally unaccaptable for the japanese market)
You need to BRAIN SPIKE a giant when you catch one, this is the ONLY way to kill the nervous system and reduce the internal heating of the fish.
Most fisherman improperly handle the bleeding and prep of most tuna, wether it be a giant, bigeye or yellowfin.
If you learn the proper way to bleed and handle your fish you will be AMAZED at the difference in taste/quality of your fish. This holds true for fluke to giant tuna.
Most people don't want to deal with the time and expense(ice) necessary to correctly handle their catch, and in the case of giants, this will GREATLY efffect the price your receive for your catch.
A properly handled giant can bring 100% more money than a fish of the same size and characteristics of a fish that was not properly handled.

shooting your tuna

CAPTSEANB,

I am not sure where "up north" is for you, but in 15 years of buying fish and fishing for giant tuna, I NEVER ONCE EVEN HEARD OF SOMEBODY JOKING ABOUT SHOOTING A TUNA, LET ALONE ACTUALLY DOING IT.
I have purchased thousands of fish from fisherman directly, purchased thousands more from other dealers as well.
NEVER SAW A BULLET HOLE, and if i did, i would probably have to reject the fish , as this would be TOTALLY unacceptable in Japan.

So your comments about the bullet hole as a mark of professionalism is totally wrong, i would consider the bullet hole a sign that a total CLOWN caught this fish and i better really check it over for damage and mishandling. It would NOT be a good sign to any of the 50+ fish buyers i know. more giant tuna are ruined by improper handling then all other problems combined, taking your $10+ a pound fish and turning it into catfood. i see it all the time, fish that would have brought $ 10-18+ lb if they were handled better turn into fish that i no longer can buy for export and they end up selling for $ 3-6 lb.

please tell me in what part of the world that you fish where the standard operating method is to shoot your giant tuna ? Please tell me the names of a few PROFESSIONAL captains that do this and more importantly please tell me the names of the buyers who like this, as i have lots of sub par tuna i can sell them if they enjoy fish with bullet holes in them.
