Well one big reason, was that the high water temps, resulted in no big bunker in the back bays. We did see large schools of small peanut bunkers, but thats not what you really want to see for the big bass and bluefish. This year happened to be a tough year for chunking. We had a early chunking season from late April to June, and it dried up pretty quickly, as the inshore waters got very warm. Even clam belly fishing was no where near what it should of been this year, again due to the water temps. If we go as far east on the south shore to Montauk, big bass and blues were very, very scarce. Their was fish in the north fork that were taken with eels and chunks but that was about it. Right now, you could chunk, along our inlets. The fish are moving along the beach, and water temps are just right. This just happens to be a late season here. What would be easier, would either be to jig the fish during the day, or fish live eels at night.
