Saw them

I saw the one T/M had and then he had it re-worked by AVET and I still not impressed with the reel.

Nice colors but that is about it.
For the same anount of money you are better off with a Newell.

Just my feelings anyway.

Hi,
I am with G & B Fishing Systems, Inc. who is the exclusive NY/NJ Distributor for Avet. I know that there have been some email problems with Avet's IT Department and coincidentally, Avet switched over to one telephone carrier this week which temporarilly knocked out the toll free number. The number should be operational again today and we apologize for the inconvenience. If you cannot get through on the toll free please feel free to contact me at (732) 566-4812 or via email at [email protected] and I will be more than happy to assist you in the resolution of your problem.
Thanks much foryour support of Avet reels.

I have to humbly DIS-AGREE with Baywatch

For the money the Avet is better than the Newell. Here's why...

1) One piece aluminum frame.

2) Lever Drag which provides much higher settings.

3) Ease of maintenance.

4) Better quality and construction overall.

5) Better handle.

6) More Line capacity per size range.

7) Has the extra free-spool tension feature.

8) Better design.

It is a might heavier, but I don't mind. It still is much lighter that the other reels of the same size.

Opinions

Everyone is intitiled to there opinion just didn't like it. When T/M got his back from they did give him the oversized handle though I guess as a courtesy.

That's why there is Ford & GMC products.:)

Bill,

If your were not impressed with the Avet reels, please do provide the reasons why. As you state everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I concur.

BUT, please include the reasons. I'm sure others want to hear them as do I.

We all log on and view this "Ask the Pros" section to learn something about our favorite pastime from the members most experienced.

Simply put... Saying your "not impressed" isn't serving that function.

Cheers,
Capt. Fred

Reasons

I didn't like the lever drag and the binding problems with them. I saw the one out of the box at T/M house.

The standard handle was a little small for me also.
Being that I am just learning the process of reel repair and maintence sending it back to the factory or an authorized dealer isn't that appealling to me either.

I did say that when T/M got his back they Gave him a new Bigger handle with it, which is kudos for the company.

I am not one to go out and buy something just cause it is new to the market. I have some Newells, 1 new and 1 I got used.
Most of my stuff is by Penn and some of it older, easy to fix and takes a beating at 1/2 the price.

Bill,

Thank you so much for your reply -- it clears up why you do not like the reel, and now I understand why.

I do not like sending reels back either, as I've had to send 3 Newells back for issues internal to the reel itself. I do agree with your concerns. I do not know about the binding issue you mention with T'mater's reel. I have two (2) Avet's which operate flawlessly, so I do not have this issue. However now that you've brought it to oue attention I will look out for it! As far as Penn goes -- I've never had issues with them out of the box.

Again, I thank you for communicating in a more clearer manner.

Regards,
Capt. Fred
