A few of us want to set up a website to share pics, meet other owners & possibly organize a rendezvous. Email me a few pictures of your boat, and write a quick blurb about who you are/where you fish, and contact info (email) for inclusion on the website and as a point of contact for any upcoming events.

Folks:

I have gotten a good response and will have the website up by this weekend. Let's keep those pictures rolling in! If you run a charter with this boat, send me some info ASAP. It's free advertising for you! Many people are interested in purchasing a Parker pilothouse, and would be interested in taking a charter to check out the boat.

The website is up-presently it represents about 5 hours of my time and about a $300 investment (domain registration & one year hosting). I would like to see the site grow, and also I would like to see us organize a rendezvous soon. First, I need to see a serious commitment by everyone out there. The response has been good, but I still need more pics of boats, and a few volunteers to write articles (i.e. rigging, experiences, chartering, etc.). I will also ask Parker to add some content (i.e. a little more in depth of the history of their boats, how Linwood was inspired, etc.). I hope that OUR website will be really good- I just need some help. In the future, we would probably want to sell T-shirts or hats on the site to make it financially self-sufficient. I am also looking for a few computer savvy volunteers to help with the maintenance.... I am by no means an expert, and neither must anyone else be. This is not a commercial site, so it's not required. I hope to fish with many of you in the future, on your boat or mine.

Check it out at:

Doctor Fish:

I don't actually use their logo anywhere (except for pictures of boats that have the logo attached). The domain name will change soon to pilothouses.org because it excludes too many boats. I originally got the idea from Betram31.com. The website I put up is a non-commercial website that is for Parker pilothouse owners to share info and pictures. The old domain name will still resolve to the website temporarily. Overall I think that this is good for Parker's image- we all know that Parker owners love their boats- the website confirms this.

I totally agree that it's great free publicity for Parker. I'm just worried for you that the execs at Parker might not see it that way. The way the laws are written, Parker could pull the plug on any website that uses their trademark or corporate name in its domain name.

For instance, there was a website that was started by Chevy fans. GM was able to force them to sign the domain name over to them. This kind of legal action can be found all over the internet. It makes no sense to people like us because it truly is free positive publicity and it's non-commercial.

I like the pilothouses.org domain much better anyway. Like you said, it opens the door to so many more boat owners. It also can't be claimed by some hot-headed corporate executive.

Fortunately there are no "executives" at Parker, just down-to-earth good people. They were excited to check out the site, and asked me not to change the name just yet (I offered to give up the domain preemptively). I think that the pilothouses.org domain is probably a better choice anyway, to avoid excluding too many boats. I hope to get some interesting material and feedback directly from Parker soon.

Thanks for your interest!

Down to Earth

That could be a matter of debate. I had a problem with the 23 SC with a drain hole being below the water line with no sea**** or access hatch to get at the problem.

Oak at W/W agreed with me on the problem but the engineers that I spoke with where MORONS. To make a long story short, the work order was approved and the problem resolved. What an agrument I had with them. To me it was the same old story of CYOA, cover your own A*%$. and it was not going to go over with me. There answere was we have been doing it that way for 5 years with no problem and that's the way it is going to stay.

My answere was that the hose has not rotted out yet. With a drain hole 3 1/2 inches below the water line and a plastic fitting to boot, when that hose rotes out the boat goes down.

The thing that impressed me was that I got a call from Linwood Parker who's name is on the boat and expessed my lack of confindence in his engineers. He looked into the problem and called me back again 2 days later and agreed that something was wrong with that design. He thanked me for pointing the problem out but on the same point admitted no fault. HMMM!!!!!!

Just something to ponder.

I agree with you- a plastic thru-hull below the water line with no sea**** or access plate is frightening!

Just curious- what was the fitting for (what was it draining- an accessory-i.e head or a standard part of the boat- i.e. forward nuisance bilge pump?) Where is it located? Care to write about the actual flaw in detail? We can't have 23s going down at the dock around here! What did you do to remedy the situation? Was it fixed?

Drain hole

On the 23 I have a storage locker directly in back of the cabin door with a hatch cover. The drain was for the gutter around the locker where the hatch cover is recieved and they ran a hose over to the starboard side.
The amazing part was that they had a differce of 5 inches from where the drain was to the waterline and only going a distance of about 4-5 ft. Now here is the kicker, the storage box drains into the bilge. Can't figure that one out.

The fix was a bronze thru hull with a sea**** a cut a access hatch in by the valve. White Water did a great fiberglass jod a matched evrything perfectly.

Those bozzo engineers from Parker need to have the ducks more in a row. I explained that if I wanted to sell the boat a good surveyor would pick that up in a heartbeat.

It got to the point where I was going to have the CG put out a notification in boating magazines. Once I said that everything was fixed. I even put post up on the Parker home Page and it was deleted by Parker. Nice move especially after spending 50 K on a 23 ft boat.

I guess those southern boys still hold a grudge.

Otherwise a great boat.

They would of been better off just saying it was put there in error because someone blew a measurment. Everyone is human and mistakes happen, but to say out right this is the way we make em and we have had no problems is just plain Bull S$%$#. Can't wait to see those claims come rolling in.
