I learned a little bit about what baits to use when from this board and it's got me thinking(uh oh)
There is a tremendous amount of Asian shore Crabs available in my area.....they can be gathered in quantity by going down to the rocky beaches on the North shore at low tide and turning over rocks. these crabs look alot like Green Crabs but are smaller. i have used them for bait a few times in seasons past and i have caught fish on them but nothing gangbusters. What do you guys think of this bait? as compared to Greenies?

I've used em for the past two years. Inshore they work great MOST of the time. There's been a few trips where the tog just didn't want to even sniff em. For deeper water tog'n, its the opposite, I've only had a few trips where they've out produced greenies.

Hey, they're "free" bait and sometimes it helps to have more than just greenies aboard ;)

Anthonyale, i have used those crabs, and found that they do work, but, i would say that they are not a good consistent bait for catching tog. Seems the green crab fishes much better in your neck of the woods, along with our standard china-back fiddlers and hermits. Would i bring some along...of course, but do not bring this as your only bait for tog.
