hey,
I went to aruba 2 years ago. We went on 1 charter, a full day, but it was pretty much just a boat ride., although we did have one hit from a wahoo. However, I had a lot of success casting mirrolures and rattle traps off the beaches there. I caught needlefish to three feet, two 8-10 lb snook, a handful of bar jacks, a 5 lb jack crevalle, numerous ladyfish, and believe it or not, a 7 lb bonefish. On the rattle trap no less! So I would recommend to your friend to bring some light spinning gear and cast lures around the shoreline.
Hope this helps,

I went to Aruba some years back
It sucks unless you like laying around the beach all day and gambling(stay away from the hermit crab races I lost a bundle on a lame crab made up it on the crap tables though).
It's windy, one side there is an oil refinery, the other side sand dunes,
on the windward side nothing but goats, rocks and aloe plants.
You can buy emareld Jewlery cheap.
Now the fishing was okay
I chartered a boat for 4 days I don't remember the name but it was a big Bertram.
We went across to the coast of Venezeula got tons of sail fish some tuna big Cuda and hooked, fought and lost 1 big marlin that came out from under the wheels of a Anchored super tanker.
Ended breaking up with the girl I was with Cause I spent so much time fishing-oh well.

You must watch

Hello Megs friend if you read this the most important part of fishing in the carribian is to make sure you know what is running!Do a search and try and find out the season and species of fish being caught the time you plan on being down ther. I have spent a lot of time and money before I realized this. Capts. won't give you the truth most of the time they ned the money and the charter so it is up to you to find out what you want to fish for. Also question the Capt. on what species he will be going for. With your knowledge in hand see if he gives you the answers your looking ofr if not move on or you'll be goingo na long boat ride. Good luck

Love it!

Been to Aruba the last three years and never fished. Lots of snokleing though. We just like to go there to hang out at the beaches. Pay attention to what the other guy said about seasons, and what's running. Although we didn't fish we went to the docks plenty of times. We go in spring(late April/early May). Slim pickins that time of year. I only see a couple of boats going out, and returning with some skimpy catches. Wahoo was about it. Enjoy yourself, real friendly Island.

Aruba fishin'

Megs,
Went to Aruba last March with the family. I wanted to go out so I checked the marina day before and spoke to some capts and locals. The pickings were slim as Mariner mentioned. A couple of Wahoo here and there. I didn't feel like spending hundreds of dollars to troll all day for a possible fish or two. Not my idea of fun so I didn't go. Agree with TM, check out what is running and how they plan to fish for them before committing. On the flip side, the hotels, casinos and restaurants are pretty good! Very windy!!

Enjoy!

There is a charter boat right by the marriott that usually does pretty well. Not sure of the name though go online you can probably find it. Most of the boats by the seaport are good for mostly boatrides. Off the beach by the rocks either 1/2 mile down from the hyatt or up a bit form the marriott there is decent surf fishing for needlefish and baracudas etc.
