I agree, I haven't caught this many fluke since I was a kid. Everythime out we catch 10-20 fluke per person, but maybe only 1-2 are keepers. Lot's of 18 -20 inch fish available. I know i'm going to get in trouble, but I kind of like the bigger limit, at least we have more action. However, I think 19.5 inches should be the limit.

I Agree with you. I think that maybe the bigger limit size has helped us out:confused:
. I don't know what it is with Fluke:rolleyes:? I'm more of a Bass/Blues kind of guy
. I fished for Fluke but I really didn't care to much for it:rolleyes:. This year, maybe its the larger size 20.5" or maybe its culling threw 10,20,30 fish for your keeper or maybe the action has been off the wall but I have to tell you I got FLUKE FEVER now it's like I have to get back out there and catch that 10 lbs Fluke. Anyone else got this problem ;)

Definately has been an unusal amount of larger fluke outside J.I. lately, not to mention an unreal amount of so-called "shorts" ( I still can't fathom refering to a 19" fluke as "short"). It has been nice to be able to travel a very short distance and have a realistic chance at a few keepers, despite our min. size.

I do have to take exception, though, to those who think the absurd size limit we were force fed this year has somehow "helped" us. For one thing, explain how having a rapidly dying fishing industry helps anglers?

Here's another thought to ponder about that wonderful 20 1/2" size limit. Anyone else read the article in that other weekly mag last week that talked about studies that show almost 100% of fluke over 18", I believe the article said, are females? So, for all of you who constantly fret over killing the "big breeders", is it possible that with a smaller size limit, we would actually be doing the fish and fishermen a favor? After all, isn't that the original point of our fishery mamagement process, to preserve the fisheries for the user groups?

I'm with jdc946 and Pablo. The regs have made fluke fishing better for the sportsmen. I never caught so many larger fish as I have in the last 2 years. There are plenty of 18 to 20 inch fish being caught. 10 years ago you would be lucky to catch 2. Now the pool goes 8 t0 10 pounds every trip. Years ago a 5 pound fish would take it all.

Pablo, I'm with you. I used to fluke just to pass the time when I couldn't be bassing or catching blues for whatever reason. Never really took it seriously, thought it was kinda boring. Now that I have been reading about it more and more these past two season and really trying to learn the intricacies of fluking I am liking it more and more. Oddly enough, my largest fish to date was when I wasn't even really being serious about it a few weekends ago. My wife and I went out at around 6pm for alittle sunset cruise. Beautiful night, no boats around so we were drifting to the east of the Meadowbrook Bridge. Decided while we're drifting might as well bounce a bucktail off the bottom. Tied a dropper loop halfway down the leader and tipped the spro's with Gulf Alive 4" shrimp. Bam! 26inch fish.

Prior to 10 years ago, how many of us ventured out to the ocean for fluke? With the annual raising of size limits, fisherman had to discover other areas to find keeper sized fish. Who knows, these large fish may have always been out there, but no one ever tried for them. Like everyone else, I have enjoyed some phenomenal fluke fishing the past few years, but it has cost a heck of a lot more in fuel to get to them.
