Definately has been an unusal amount of larger fluke outside J.I. lately, not to mention an unreal amount of so-called "shorts" ( I still can't fathom refering to a 19" fluke as "short"). It has been nice to be able to travel a very short distance and have a realistic chance at a few keepers, despite our min. size.
I do have to take exception, though, to those who think the absurd size limit we were force fed this year has somehow "helped" us. For one thing, explain how having a rapidly dying fishing industry helps anglers?
Here's another thought to ponder about that wonderful 20 1/2" size limit. Anyone else read the article in that other weekly mag last week that talked about studies that show almost 100% of fluke over 18", I believe the article said, are females? So, for all of you who constantly fret over killing the "big breeders", is it possible that with a smaller size limit, we would actually be doing the fish and fishermen a favor? After all, isn't that the original point of our fishery mamagement process, to preserve the fisheries for the user groups?
