There are here in Mountauk. Viking Fleet is targeting them this weekend. I'm not planning to pay $50 fare just to catch some squid on a boat. I'll wait till they are in the docks. Should be another week or so till it gets heavy.

Sign in Alice's fish market said there wasn't any squid yet because of the Bluefish.

Yikes! That's early for blues to be here. Lot's of bunkers in the bays but not much squid yet...

Peconic and Gardiners Bays are now full of Bluefish. Montauk guys have been getting a few squid but nothing great.
How can I get a Map to see where Gardners bay and Peconic bay are located?

You should be able to find one on the web. Those two bays are just west of Montauk on the north side of LI. Peconic Bay is between the two forks on the east end of LI.

I just spoke to Billy over at Fishbox Tackle on Northern Blvd, Flushing. He said, I can forget about Greenport this year since the Blues arrived earlier than the squid. As for Newport, RI - he said there was a small spark last night. Few of his customers managed to catch 15-20 squids, maybe it need just a few more days for the squid to congregate in mass.

Based on my conversations with various tackle shops all over the ocean state before doing my reports last night, the squid fishing early in the week was decent in Newport but fell off over the weekend with the nasty weather. Everyone expects it pick up this week after a day or two of good weather.

I tried a few spots around Greenport and Shelter Island last night (5/5), the bluefish were hitting the jig, I didn't see a single squid.

The traps in Gardiners Bay are getting charges of 20 to 50 pounds of squid mixed w/ blues, scup, fluke and bunker.
