Has anyone else checked these one out yet? I took a ride over to Causeway B&T specifically to look at them, seeing as I do need a "Winter" set of heavy skins to use in the cold, instead of my "always on" lightweight white Grundens, that frankly, have seen better days. And multiple vists to my local dry cleaner's tailor to repeatedly re-stitch 'em.
Anyway, these new Aquaskinz pants are VERY impressive. Right off the bat you'll notice that the material Aquaskinz selected is at least as H/D as what Grundens uses in its commercial-intended Herkules line. Maybe even heavier.
However, these pants feature two super upgrades over every other H/D set of skins I've ever seen - namely, a pair of velco-sealed storm pockets - and even more importantly, a waterproof zipper down the front.
Time to get personal - I cannot stress how important this last feature is to someone like myself, who's gone thru a surgical proceedure and now has the need to relieve one's self much more frequently than before. Not something I really enjoy talking about, but trust me on this, having a zipper in the front will be a God's send for me.
Or really for anyone that likes to drink lots of hot coffee/tea/cold beer on the water. We all know Newton's "second" law, right? "What goes in must come out." And that seems to go double for coffee in cold weather - am I on the money here?
Is there any need to further elaborate? Next time you're fishing in a full set of skins - complete with a top that overlaps your pants, consider how nice it would be to NOT have to take off half your wardrobe to relieve yourself.
Think about it.
Add to this the ability to put a DRY handkerchief or paper towel in one of those TWO waterproof pockets - for eyeglass/sunglass cleaning or nose blowing in the typical crummy weather we fish in, and these pants come up winners - to my way of thinking at least.
Not inexpensive, but certainly right in line with what Helly, Grundens or Guy Cotten gets for their H/D gear.
And if you feel the need to hear corraborating testimony - just ask any surfcaster about Aquaskinz' quality - they've been using this company's products for years.
Check 'em out.
best, Lep
