Has anyone else checked these one out yet? I took a ride over to Causeway B&T specifically to look at them, seeing as I do need a "Winter" set of heavy skins to use in the cold, instead of my "always on" lightweight white Grundens, that frankly, have seen better days. And multiple vists to my local dry cleaner's tailor to repeatedly re-stitch 'em.

Anyway, these new Aquaskinz pants are VERY impressive. Right off the bat you'll notice that the material Aquaskinz selected is at least as H/D as what Grundens uses in its commercial-intended Herkules line. Maybe even heavier.

However, these pants feature two super upgrades over every other H/D set of skins I've ever seen - namely, a pair of velco-sealed storm pockets - and even more importantly, a waterproof zipper down the front.

Time to get personal - I cannot stress how important this last feature is to someone like myself, who's gone thru a surgical proceedure and now has the need to relieve one's self much more frequently than before. Not something I really enjoy talking about, but trust me on this, having a zipper in the front will be a God's send for me.

Or really for anyone that likes to drink lots of hot coffee/tea/cold beer on the water. We all know Newton's "second" law, right? "What goes in must come out." And that seems to go double for coffee in cold weather - am I on the money here?

Is there any need to further elaborate? Next time you're fishing in a full set of skins - complete with a top that overlaps your pants, consider how nice it would be to NOT have to take off half your wardrobe to relieve yourself.

Think about it.

Add to this the ability to put a DRY handkerchief or paper towel in one of those TWO waterproof pockets - for eyeglass/sunglass cleaning or nose blowing in the typical crummy weather we fish in, and these pants come up winners - to my way of thinking at least.

Not inexpensive, but certainly right in line with what Helly, Grundens or Guy Cotten gets for their H/D gear.

And if you feel the need to hear corraborating testimony - just ask any surfcaster about Aquaskinz' quality - they've been using this company's products for years.

Check 'em out.

best, Lep

I have them, Worn them and liked them!

I've worn the Albatross Bibs a couple times now, clam chumming, and I like them alot! The zipper is WORTH IT'S WEIGHT IN GOLD.... I'm a coffee drinker....LOL.

They are similar in weight to the Grundens but they are a little more flexible, not as stiff. Believe me, I'm a DIE HARD Grundens guy but these bibs ROCK!

Causeway kudos to Aquaskinz.... nice stuff!

A couple of comments.

Newtons second law is F=MA, I think you may be thinking of bernoulli's principle of fluid dynamics.

Grundens are waterproof inside as well as out so why take them off just to pee? ;)

Lastly, they sound like a major advance in skin technology, Kadir makes good stuff.

Those are real nice, as a surfcaster as well, Aguaskins gear can't be beat.

Pete,

You are right about your old Grundens, they are pretty discusting. I know there are some guys who won't fish with you because of all the yellow stains on the front!

Better yellow up front than brown out back, no?

Who are these guys that won't fish with me, anyway? That's a problem I don't seem to have. Sometimes silence really IS golden.

Or yellow.

I'm thinking about getting a pair of these myself, and at that price it seems worthwhile.

Any warranties listed on this as far as seams/stitching?

Also is there a repair policy with the company where they would recondition them if needed?

So I picked up my pants today. They're cut a little differently, at least relative to what I'm used to in a typical Grundens pants.

At 5'9" and pretty much "middle-aged" in proprotions, I found the waist of the XLs to be a bit snugger than the other pants I'm used to. Also, the bib top is about two inches lower than what Grundens offers and the pant legs are VERY generously cut, both in length and width. I'm thinkin' I'm lookin' a little "ghetto" with the wide legs, but this could actually work well in actual use - just gotta try them out under actual crummy weather conditions.

What is not in doubt is how terrific the front full length storm-proof zipper is. Not only for the obvious reason, but also because it makes it very much easier slipping them on - especially in a tight boat cabin.

I'll give a better report once the REAL cold weather fishing gets going. But they look pretty good already.
