Somebody here once mentioned that they thought Ugly Stik to be one of the best "store bought" rods out there and I'll second that.
For an inexpensive yet good quality rod or a backup rod they can't be beat.
I will say that I think your really "testing" a 8 1/2 US with 3oz's though. IMHO (can't stress that enough!)
It would be a perfect rod teamed with a Penn 5500 or 710Z w/#15 berk big game or Ande mono. To me this would be ideal for 3/4 to 1 3/4oz lures.
Pefect rod for North Shore schoolies.(not that it wouldn't handle 20lbers..)
Leave the #20 stuff for the "up front" side of the south shore. BTW I never use #20 mono anywhere. Too "cast resistant" d^)
If I want heavy mono I like #17 silver thread. Or I'll go braid.
