anyone use a verizon wireless aircard for their laptop?

not Verizon - AT&T (Cingular)
Good alternative if no wireless signal is available.
Little faster then Dial Up. Basically that's what it is. A cell Phone for your laptop.
I use it on the LIRR & on the Port Jeff ferry headed into Conneticut.
The stronger the cell signal the faster it performs.
Video (You Tube) will not play very well.
Good if you have no alternative. Necessary if you HAVE TO HAVE an internet connection. Would not recommend using as your sole source.
Actually thought of bring it & the laptop to the Noreast Holiday Bash to allow members to post during the party.
Company pays for mine so I have it.
If not - I'd see no real use for it & would not bother.
It comes in handy if you're travelling with your PC but that's the only application I could see getting it for..

if you want internet where ever you get a cell phone signal, the card is the ticket.
only thing I do not like is it pumps out some serious "rays".
I cannot even use a wireless land line phone in the same room there is so much static...
I can't help thinking where all those "rays" are going when I have the thing booted up sitting in my lap!!

I was told if you use an 'open' signal it isn't secure and can get more viruses.
I may try the aircard for 30 days and see how the signal is.
It would be my fastest way to get online,
for I only have dial-up at home and getting more cable will take time.
They say I have 30 days to bring back the aircard, if I don't like it.
Plus, you must sign up for 2 years! or pay penality for leaving, after the 30 days.
Plus, I can use a wireless signal before the aircard is used, if both are available.
I am so uneducated in this field.

For home........
Recommend you get cable.
Buy a wireless router (about $80 for a Linksey's from CISCO)
That will give you the wireless option around the home with the speed of cable. That's what I'm using.
As far as security is concerned.......
From the home - you have the option of making the wireless network secure. Meaning no one else can access it without a password.
Your normal security software (firewalls etc.) will pretty much block anyone out of your actual machine so it is as secure as your non wireless set up.
I'm running 4 machines off of my router at home.
Two laptops & 2 desk tops.
No effect on connection speed.
