Can anyone tell me if it's legal to fish from a waverunner?

With the prices I'm hearing that gas is supposed to be over the summer, I might need to get a waverunner for my fishing needs! $5 A GALLON? I don't even own a boat and that scares me...

What is a fluke trip or a bass trip going to cost? Imagine a shark or tuna trip? Those guys might have to re-mortgage their homes to fish offshore at that price!

Lets see what I'll need to fish from a waverunner:

Fluke: Life vest, 1 rod & reel, a few jigs, some squid strips, 3 bottles of water...I'm fishing!

Bass: Life vest, 1 rod & reel. I'll snag a bunker and quickly re-rig it. Some treble hooks, a few sinkers, 3 bottles of water...I'm fishing!

I should be able to fish all day on one tank of gas or $25!

Yes, you can fish from a waverunner. Great for getting into some of the shallow spots. Only catch is you are limited to daytime only (at least in NY that is the case) as PWC are not allowed at night even if you did add appropriate lights for the size of the craft.

Get a kayak , gas is free :)!
I have an ocean kayak i use for freshwater fishing. I think it is fun in the summer weather when getting wet isn't a problem. I remember even in the cool cloudy summer days getting chilled sitting in the wet kayak going downstream with a cool steady wind. yes a small craft low to the water has its limitations for sure.

I usually dont get wet , sometimes I get splashed if wind is blowing hard and I am pedaling straight into them. I have a sit on top, that probably has something to do with it. Plus I usually fish fairly calm waters

Thanks for the replies guys-

I have been contemplating fishing from a waverunner for years. I see absolutely no reason why it would not be a great deal of fun and also very cost effective. Not only that, I can do it whenever I feel like it without needing much in the way of crew, gas, bait, etc.

The only deterrent I can see would come from the DEC or the Park Police. I'm not sure, but I think that waverunners were banned in Jamaica Bay a few years back. I need to look into that. Jamaica Bay offers tons of great fishing opportunities from a waverunner. Especially in the shallow water areas where blue demons and stripers go to gorge themselves on everything from spearing to adult bunker. One rod rigged with a surface plug could keep me busy for hours catching and releasing fish in less than 3 feet of water. How much more fun can fishing be?

If anyone knows anything about the regulations for waverunners in Jamaica Bay, please feel free to contact me. I really want to look into getting this thing going.
