I've come to the realization that i have a problem........an addiction!
I am addicted,of course< to fishing.
actually I came to this realization a long, long time ago.
The problem that is coming to a head is this.My house needs work! There are a number of house projects that I need to get done. I fear I am kidding myself thinking I can do them in the winter and be done by spring. how do you guys cope with this? is the only answer to pay through the nose to have someone else do the work? Or do I bite the bullet and give up a season of fishing to work on the house on the weekends?

That's a plan...

Hmmmmmm.....iguess if i plan the bathroom so that the new fixtures are usable by the early spring then I suppose I could do the finishing work in spurts.......ummm....do you think you could talk to my wife and sell her on this?

Anthony,

Been there! I am faced with just the same battle, something has to give. Lately, the house has been winning the battle (I am working more around the house than fishing). I do this because I know that I am earning fishing points which I will be able to redeem when the time is right. Perhaps the Spring season is shot, well then prep your tackle, rods, reels – keep tight to the fishing boards and save yourself for the fall. Besides, the fishing is always better in the fall.

It's like goin' to the canyon. Gotta pick your days.
So, in the winter on both Sat and Sun ,get up real early and work on the house. I mean put in a days work. Get all the stuff you need during the week . This is not easy. Your wife should relent and calm down after a while. Have a good a attitude. You've got to win. It's a battle to the death! Or else. Or what? You ain't goin' fishin' anymore.

AnthonyA,
It may take a bit more planning on your part. First, do the house work over the winter. Second, plan the projects, Start the big projects early so they get done. Do the smaller ones later. I would not start a bathroom in March if you plan on flounder fishing.
Me, I'm already working on redoing the entire kitchen (mucho points) and plan to be done by end of February, early March if necessary.
You can't let the house fall apart while you fish, or you won't be fishing for long.
Good luck.

anthonyale, you are in tough spot. Maybe there are some home improvement courses the Mrs. could take, the Home Depot I know has a lot of "how to" clinics going on at their many locations, this way too you don't have to spend any of your hard earned fishing money on schooling her in the ways of home improvement. I'd would try to get her more involved.

You can even ask my X wife how well this approach works, she now has the beautiful house I built in Massapequa.

Work on the house and kiss up to the Mrs. all winter long (except when there are boating & fishing shows). Set the expectation that from Memorial Day weekend thru the summer it's fishing season, and only emergency repairs are to be done to the house. Keep your lady up to date on your progress during the winter, and make sure she knows what you're working for. Set the right expectations, and ye shall receive! If you have young children like I do, then the deal is that you fish one day per weekend, Mother Nature decides!

If your wife is religious, then go to "her church" in the winter, and "yours" in the summer!

If you are a sports fan too, then just sell the house and buy a condo!

Remember Like anything else . The pros have all the tools and know how to get the job done quickly and profesionally . Thats what they do everyday . I don't know what your experance is but you may tackle a bathroom and it can linger on months while a pro will came in and be done in 5 days . Not to mention the constant trips getting material and tools . Does it pay to save a few bucks if that happens ? Maybe put in some overtime at work if you can now to pay a pro later .

If your ready to tackle these things , Do one at a time completing each project . Then move on to the next . Or you might make yourself miserable If you take on to much . Tell the wife when spring comes your done .

If you don't have the experance then sub out some of the work . So you don't get a headack and do some of the smaller projects on your own . Some wifes will nag you to death if a job don't get done completely once you start it . Enjoy , life is to short .

Good Luck MIKE TUNA

If you really can't get motivated, I have the perfect solution. I will lend you my wife...she will nag you until you can't bear it anymore and you will just do the work not to hear her anymore. This usually works for me. In fact I recently gutted my bathroom thanks to her relentless motivation and am in the midst of redoing it. Also, she is 4 months pregnant (first baby) and insists that I finish before the baby is born. I actually have to finish the bathroom so that I can also redo the baby's room.
