Also wasn't there a very large mako caught somewhere around here? i read it in the fisherman awhile ago.

If I recall correctly it was caught somewhere off the coast of MA.

yes ! 1,221 lb Mako caught off Oaks Bluffs Mass. Shark Tournament !
