ON THE EDGE fished that water when it was at it's closest to us LI boys, and it was still over 100nm away at the time.

It has been slowly receding south since then and won't be getting closer anytime soon, as evidenced by it's current location...

A friend of mine fished it last Friday when it was south of the Toms and they didn't have a bite. The boats that caught were south of Carteret on the 500 fathom line. As Fweddy said I think that water is out of reach for most NY boats now.

leaving sat night from AC with On the Edge, as of now looks like headed towards Wilmington and back to Long Island sunday after fishing. Weather looks good, can't believe i'll have 2 canyon trips under my belt before the end of April!
Anyone else going?

not necessarily

Goodeats,
An eddy located anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere will have a clockwise rotation. Just like your toilet bowl when it flushes...

There are several factors that influence an eddy's movement. The current that created it probably being the biggest. the wind being another major player.
The eddy's rotation by itself matters little regarding movement. Think of the analogy of a spinning top. It will spin in one place until you blow on it...

When that warm water pushes up into the much colder, denser shelf water this time of year, it is akin to hitting a cement wall. It usually travels only so far before losing momentum, receding & being reabsorbed into the current that formed it...

Catchem' up, joey!

Just a heads-up to anyone feeling the itch to make the run offshore but a good friend fished it this week just offshore of the Spencer and caught nothing while trolling all day. This is the second trip that boat made there in the last week and still hasn't put a fish in the boat this year and they are very good fishermen.

I also personally know of anohter boat that also struck out in that water last week and a third boat with only one fish.

Hopefully another eddy breaks off in another month and really brings in some good fishing because this one is not holding enough fish to burn all that $4.00+ diesel. The latest SAT shots do show the gulf stream bending to the north again just like it did when this first eddy was formed so we have a shot and another breaking off in a couple weeks.
