They are done one way or the other in time for the plovers arrival. All that sand at Point Lookout came from somewhere. Now there's lots more nesting area. The West Bar will always be there. Making the inlet deeper and wider will change things for a while, at least the deeper draft boats will have more room to operate.

That's a good point about having not yet moved the buoys (yet). Hope you are correct.

I haven't been out in the past couple of weeks, prior to that the dredge was working diligently on the east bar, the buoys hadn't been moved because the dredge was working in the "new channel".

Although you might think that major changes needed to be made to JI, bear in mind that the inlet, including red flashers 4 and 6 has not moved in many years and there remains a deep channel in this area.

The sand has encroached from the east, only in the area south of this (south of the tip of the jetty). This is what has literally pushed the "channel" onto the west bar.

So as dredging operations go, this was probably not all that big of an operation.

Hopefully, the JI Buoy and channel will move back to the east, and JI will be a safer happier place. Not that it was ever pure heaven, but it certainly needed some work ...

I just checked the newest Local Notice to Mariner for District 1.

Local Notice to Mariners 12/08

It looks like bouys 9 through 15, just east of Reyolds Channel have been repositioned or re established. The LNM says nothing about bouys 1 through 4 or the JI which are at the entrance to the inlet.

I guess we will have to wait and see if they reestablish the newly dredged channel.

Edit: Just trying to get the link to work.
